The Problem

If you’re using a weight loss injection like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, you already know the relief it can bring. Appetite reduces. Food noise quiets. Weight loss feels easier.

But many people find the transition phase feels uncertain.

Research published in The BMJ (January 2025) found that after stopping GLP-1 medications, patients regain weight at an average rate of 0.4kg per month – with all weight lost projected to return within 2 years. Around 50% of patients discontinue within 12 months.

Weight lost projected to return within 2 years. Around 50% of patients discontinue within 12 months. The researchers concluded: “Despite their success in achieving initial weight loss, these drugs alone may not be sufficient for long term weight control.”

This is the transition gap. And this is exactly where my work begins.

Why This Happens:

Borrowed vs. Owned Control

GLP-1 medications provide borrowed control – appetite suppression that works while you’re taking the medication but disappears when you stop.

What most people need is owned control – the internal hunger regulation, behavioural patterns, and self-trust that continue working permanently, with or without medication.

What medication provides (borrowed control):

What hypnotherapy installs (owned control):

The Real Challenge Is Not Hunger. It Is Fear.

For most people coming off weight loss injections, the deepest concern is not simply appetite returning. It is the fear of weight regain and what that would mean emotionally.

Loss of control. Loss of self-trust. A sense of going backwards.

When fear rises, the nervous system shifts into threat mode. The brain begins scanning: “Is hunger back yet?” “Is this the start of regain?”

That hypervigilance increases anxiety. Anxiety increases urgency. Urgency can trigger reactive eating.

This is not weakness. It is a predictable neurological response.

If the fear response is not stabilised, behaviour becomes shaky during dose reduction.

This programme addresses that fear response first, so behaviour remains steady as medication changes.

The Structured Transition Programme

A four-session behavioural transition programme designed around the common psychological phases people experience when coming off GLP-1 medications.

Session 1

Foundation & Stabilisation

Before or at the start of dose reduction. Calm anticipatory anxiety. Strengthen confidence. Reinforce habits and identity stability.

Session 2

Reduction Week Support

Install hunger safety. Reduce hypervigilance. Quiet food noise. Build a no-shame reset protocol.

Session 3

Consolidation & Self-Trust

Remove residual fear of regain. Strengthen internal control. Deepen long-term maintenance identity.

Session 4

Future-Proofing

Prepare for restaurants, travel, stress, tired evenings and prevent gradual drift back to old patterns.

Each session builds on the previous one, supporting a smooth transition as medication is reduced or stopped. Between-session reinforcement supports integration and consistency.

Sessions are available in person in Mt Hawthorn, Perth, or online across Australia & New Zealand

Ethical Scope

I do not provide medical advice, dosage guidance, or reduction schedules. All medication decisions must come from your GP or prescribing clinician.

My role is to support the behavioural and psychological aspects of transitioning off weight loss medications, working alongside GP-led care where appropriate.

This programme complements medical treatment. It does not replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hypnotherapy help when coming off Ozempic?

Yes. Hypnotherapy supports the emotional and behavioural aspects of transitioning off GLP-1 medications, including fear of regain, anxiety, food noise, and habit stability.

No. Medication reduction must be guided by your GP or prescriber. I support behavioural stability during that process.
Food noise refers to persistent mental chatter about food, intrusive urges, habitual cues, and reward anticipation. This programme helps reduce reactivity to those signals.
Very normal. For many people, the fear of weight regain is stronger than the fear of hunger itself. This programme treats regain fear as a neurological threat response and retrains calm, steady behaviour.

The structured programme is four sessions. Some clients benefit from additional follow-up sessions for reinforcement and maintenance.
